Smith & Co is a construction cost consultancy focused on the delivery of quantity surveying and project management services. Our core focus is on client service, we provide exceptionally high levels of client service at competitive rates. The company was founded in 2015, by Tim Smith & Erika Smith who have 34 combined years of experience in the construction consultancy field.
Technology
The backbone of our business is accuracy and transparency in construction cost certainty. We use the latest software and hardware tools such as Cloud based systems (for collaborative team work and secure backup), the latest DimX measuring software for direct digital measurement of CAD & Revit drawings and WinQS elemental estimate and bills of quantities production software.
Innovation

Some of our innovative techniques are Project Payment Summaries, discounted cash flow analysis, ongoing internal & external training for all staff and third party project funds administration.

With 28 years of quantity surveying expertise, Tim leads Smith & Co’s strategic direction and delivery across sectors ranging from luxury hospitality and mixed-use residential developments to large-scale public infrastructure. Smith & Co was founded in 2015 and has built a trusted reputation as a quantity surveyor partner for complex, high-value projects. Tim’s project experience encompasses feasibility studies, cost planning, contract documentation, procurement strategy, and life cycle costing across the commercial, retail, hotel, residential, education, and industrial sectors. His technical foundation includes an MSc in Property Studies (UCT), professional registration as a PrQS with SACQSP, and accreditations with RICS, PMAQS, and SACPCMP. Tim’s approach combines rigorous cost certainty with transparent risk management, translating complex feasibility and procurement challenges into clear, actionable strategy for clients and project teams.
Erika is a trusted quantity surveyor with over two decades of experience helping clients achieve cost certainty and maximize value on complex projects. She works collaboratively with project teams to ensure budgets are controlled, risks are managed, and every stage of delivery is transparent and efficient. Her portfolio covers a wide range of sectors — including commercial offices, data and contact centers, multi‑residential developments, luxury residences, retail, education, healthcare, and industrial projects — giving clients confidence in her ability to adapt to diverse requirements and deliver results across Cape Town’s dynamic property market. Holding a BTech degree in Quantity Surveying (1998) and professional registrations with ASAQS and SACQSP, Erika combines technical expertise with a client‑first approach. She believes that collaboration is the foundation of success, and her commitment consistently translates into projects that meet expectations, protect investment, and build long‑term partnerships.
Marwaan is an experienced quantity surveyor with over a decade of professional practice across the hospitality, residential, commercial, industrial, and retail sectors. Marwaan holds a BTech in Quantity Surveying and maintains professional registration with two of the most respected bodies in the field — the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP). These accreditations reflect his commitment to the highest standards of professional practice and ongoing excellence. His broad sector experience and thorough command of the full cost management lifecycle — from initial feasibility through to final account — make him a trusted advisor to a wide range of clients, founded on integrity and clear communication.
